Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball Team (3-3, 1-2) won its first South Atlantic Conference game of the year with a 71-37 victory over Brevard (4-1, 1-1) Saturday afternoon at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.

Chelsey Romero (Hampton, Va.) and sophomore forward
Madi Suddreth (Taylorsville, N.C.) combined for 44 points in the victory.
Romero led all scorers with 23 points while Suddreth added 21 points as the Bears broke the contest open by outscoring the Tornados by a 29-6 margin in the third period.
Madison Lenox (Raleigh, N.C.) led the Tornados with 21 points but Brevard hit just five-of-27 three-point attempts and finished the game by shooting 27 percent (15-of-56) in the setback.
Lenoir-Rhyne, which shot 64 percent (18-of-28) in the decisive second half, held a 42-25 advantage on the boards in defeating Brevard for the 21st time in 22 all-time contests. Junior guard
Justyce Swango (Virginia Beach, Va.) added eight rebounds and nine assists – both game-highs – in addition to three points in the victory.
Lenoir-Rhyne also blocked four shots and snapped a two-game losing streak in the process.
Lenoir-Rhyne remains at home to face Greensboro at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium on Wednesday beginning at 7:00 p.m. Brevard, meanwhile, plays league-foe Lincoln Memorial on Monday in Harrogate, Tenn., at 6:00 p.m.
