Rock Hill, S.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Swimming Teams wrapped up the 2016 Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships Saturday at the Upper Palmetto YMCA (Rock Hill Aquatics Center) with the women’s squad notching its best finish in school history.
The women’s team for the Bears placed seventh with a total of 352 points while the Lenoir-Rhyne men’s squad took ninth place (319 points).
Queens, the top-ranked team in the nation, prevailed in both the women’s (1,634) and men’s (1,561) competition. The Royals repeated as league champions on both sides as well.
Lenoir-Rhyne freshman Jacob Sink set a school record in the men’s 200-yard butterfly (1:53.81) while the women’s squad established a new program mark in the 400-freestyle relay (3:37.64).
The relay consisted of senior Leah Watts (Hickory, N.C.), sophomore Julia Dieffenwierth (Venice, Fla.), freshmen Samantha Geyer (Brunswick, Ohio) and Elizabeth McCann (Charlotte, N.C.).
The 2016 NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships take place from Tuesday, March 8, through Saturday, March 12, in Indianapolis, Ind.
