Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball Team (8-1) used a late scoring binge – highlighted by a 10-run eighth inning – to down Limestone (7-5), 17-5, Thursday afternoon at Bears Field.
Lenoir-Rhyne senior first baseman Colby Dishmond (Statesville, N.C.) hit the game-winning, three-run home run in the seventh inning and finished with six runs batted in as the Bears ran their winning streak to seven games.
Dishmond's home run in the bottom of the seventh inning erased a 5-3 deficit and the Bears put the game away by plating 10 runs in the eighth frame highlighted by two-run doubles from senior designated hitter Ryan Perkins (Woodruff, S.C.) and Thompson.
Limestone's Alex Oleszkowicz (Dearborn Heights, Mich.) opened the scoring with a three-run home run in the top of the second inning in the losing effort.
Dishmond, Perkins and freshman outfielder Grant Fuller (Simpsonville, S.C.) all had three hits each to lead the Bears' 17-hit attack.
Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore Connor Dailey (Rutherfordton, N.C.) improved to 2-0 on the year after being credited with the victory while Limestone's Ryan Whitt (Belton, S.C.) fell to 0-2 after taking the loss.
Lenoir-Rhyne remains at home to take on West Virginia Tech in a doubleheader at Bears Field beginning at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday while Limestone hosts Gannon in a doubleheader Saturday at Noon.
