Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball Team (10-2) put an exclamation point on a weekend series with a rousing, 25-2 victory over West Virginia Tech (1-2) Sunday afternoon at Bears Field.
Lenoir-Rhyne senior first baseman Colby Dishmond (Statesville, N.C.) and senior shortstop Matthew De La Rosa (Austin, Texas) both hit home runs and the Bears put the game away early with a 10-run second inning.
The inning was highlighted by a three-run home run from De La Rosa, who finished the game with five runs batted in. De La Rosa and senior second baseman Ryan Perkins (Woodruff, S.C.) added two-run doubles as the Bears finished with 23 hits on the day.
The Bears jumped out to a 17-0 lead before the Golden Bears finally plated a run in the top of the seventh inning.
Lenoir-Rhyne junior Phillip Black (Shelby, N.C.) improved to 1-1 on the year while West Virginia Tech's Josh Hudson (South Charleston, W.Va.) took the loss.
The Golden Bears' Tommy Weaver (Luray, Va.) hit a solo home run despite the loss.
Lenoir-Rhyne remains at home to take on King on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m., at Bears Field while West Virginia Tech remains on the road to take on Glenville State on Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
