Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Team (11-1) ended the weekend with a 3-2 victory over ninth-ranked Georgia College (12-2) Sunday afternoon at Bears Field. The contest was part of the Lenoir-Rhyne/Catawba Invitational.
Lenoir-Rhyne junior first baseman Sydney Landreth (Disputanta, Va.) hit a two-run home run, her third of the year, while junior outfielder Dakota Keller (Mooresboro, N.C.) scored the winning run off a Georgia College error in the fifth frame.
Freshman outfielder Erin Boone (Creedmoor, N.C.) scored the Bears' first run of the contest.
Georgia College scored twice in the third inning thanks to run-scoring hits from Taylor Campbell (Warner Robins, Ga.) and Faith Flanders (Dublin, Ga.) after Landreth's home run in the top of the frame.
The Bears were able to pull out the win, its third consecutive victory, despite three hits in the contest.
Lenoir-Rhyne senior Maryann Hoskins (Havelock, N.C.) improved to 4-1 on the year after earning the complete game victory while Carly Lewis (Seymour, Tenn.) (6-1) suffered her first loss of the year.
Lenoir-Rhyne remains at home to face Converse in a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon beginning at 2:00 p.m.. at Bears Field. Georgia College, meanwhile, hosts Albany State in a doubleheader on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
