Hickory, N.C. – The Newberry Baseball Team (16-7-1, 3-4) opened a South Atlantic Conference weekend series with Lenoir-Rhyne (16-6, 2-2) with a 3-1 triumph Friday night at Bears Field.

Newberry's Daniel Nations (Central, S.C.) and Danton Hyman (Prosperity, S.C.) combined to limit the Bears to just one run and six hits in the victory.

The Wolves took the lead for good with a two-run sixth inning.  Newberry's Jeff Snead (Cumming, Ga.) scored the game-winning run with the bases loaded on a fielder's choice.
