Hickory, N.C. – The fourth-ranked Lake Erie Men's Lacrosse Team (2-0) scored early to take control and held down Lenoir-Rhyne (1-4) in a 14-6 victory over Wednesday night at Moretz Stadium.
The Storm's Edmond Renaud (Carlisle, Ontario, CANADA) keyed the victory with six goals and three assists as Lake Erie jumped out to a 6-0 advantage early in the second period on its way to the win.
Lenoir-Rhyne junior attacker Mike Hanlon (Haymarket, Va.), the team's-leading scorer, finished with three goals but the Bears were held without a score in the first and last periods. Hanlon leads the team in goals scored (13), assists (four) and total points (17) on the year.
The Bears, despite the loss, outshot the Storm in the second, third and fourth periods and finished with a 44-41 advantage in shots taken despite the loss.
Lake Erie's Mitchell Shafer (Hamburg, N.Y.) added four goals while Tom Lipomi (Hamburg, N.Y.) earned the victory in goal after making 13 saves. Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore Ryan Crompton (Frederick, Md.) made five saves but suffered the loss. Sophomore Damon Cummins (Lancaster, Pa.), as a reserve, made 12 stops for the Bears.
Lenoir-Rhyne opens South Atlantic Conference play on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m., against Coker at Moretz Stadium. Lake Erie faces Tampa in Tampa, Fla., on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
