Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball Sweeps Anderson On Senior Day, 5-4 And 12-2

Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball Team (32-17, 11-12) swept Anderson (19-29, 9-14) in a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader on Senior Day, 5-4 and 12-2, Saturday afternoon at Bears Field.

Lenoir-Rhyne senior second baseman Ryan Perkins (Woodruff, S.C.) hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning with two outs as the Bears rallied from a 4-1 deficit to take the win.

Perkins, who with finished three hits and three runs batted in, tied the score at four with a run-scoring double in the seventh inning.  Lenoir-Rhyne senior designated hitter Will Thompson (Spartanburg, S.C.) added a two-run double in the seventh frame as well.

The Trojans' Steven Cooper (Williamston, S.C.) and Michael Rochester (Belton, S.C.) drove in runs in the losing effort.

Lenoir-Rhyne junior John Curtis (Lenoir, N.C.) improved to 2-0 after earning the win while Mitchell Cooksey (Washington, D.C.) fell to 5-4 after taking the loss.

Game Two – Lenoir-Rhyne 12, Anderson 2 (seven innings)
Lenoir-Rhyne put the game away early with an eight-run first inning in sweeping the Trojans.  Perkins and freshman outfielder Justin Dean (Mauldin, S.C.) both had two-run singles in the frame for the Bears.

Lenoir-Rhyne senior shortstop Matthew De La Rosa (Austin, Texas) drove in two runs and set the school single-season record for runs batted in with 61.

Lenoir-Rhyne junior Thomas St. Clair (Winston-Salem, N.C.) (3-3) went the distance for the Bears and struck out eight batters while Andrew Dill (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) (4-1) suffered the loss for Anderson.  Cooper and Garrett Bernardo (Albany, N.Y.) tallied a run batted in each in the setback.

Lenoir-Rhyne and Anderson wrap up the South Atlantic Conference series with a single game on Sunday at 1:00 p.m., at Bears Field.
