Charlotte, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Lacrosse Team (11-4), ranked No. 16 in NCAA Division II, increased its winning streak to 10 games with an 18-10 win over Tusculum (5-10) in the semifinals Thursday of the 2016 South Atlantic Conference Championship at the Royals Athletic Complex.
Three players – senior midfielder Carson Sterling (Durham, N.C.), junior attacker Will Remsen (Baldwin, N.Y.) and sophomore midfielder Ben Corrigan (Johns Creek, Ga.) – all scored four goals each for the Bears, who advanced to the conference tournament championship for the third straight year.
Lenoir-Rhyne will take on the winner of third-seeded Queens and second-seeded Wingate in the league championship game on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
Lenoir-Rhyne held an 11-9 advantage after three periods before breaking the contest open with seven consecutive goals in the final stanza to defeat Tusculum for the second time this year.
Lenoir-Rhyne junior attacker Mike Hanlon (Haymarket, Va.) added two scores and three assists and his increased his team-leading total to 38 goals, 20 assists and 58 total points. The Bears held the advantage in shots taken (57-38) as well.
Tusculum lost despite four goals from Nate Wade (Victoria, British Columbia, CANADA) and three scores from Ben Boyd (Bel Air, Md.) on the day.
In goal, Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore Ryan Crompton (Frederick, Md.) earned the win after stopping 13 shots while Tusculum's goalkeeper, Kevin Haggerty (Suffern, N.Y.), made 11 saves but took the setback.
