No. 14 Queens Women's Lacrosse Wins Over Lenoir-Rhyne, 17-7, In League Showdown

Charlotte, N.C. – The Queens Women's Lacrosse Team (11-2, 6-0), ranked No. 14 in NCAA Division II, defeated Lenoir-Rhyne (8-6, 5-1), 17-7, in a South Atlantic Conference showdown Saturday afternoon at the Royals Athletic Complex.

Brittany Larranaga (Orlando, Fla.) scored a game-high five goals for the Royals, who ran their winning streak to six games and took over sole possession of first place in the league standings.

The Bears lost despite two goals each from freshman attacker Gabby Sousa (Delran, N.J.) and junior midfielder Kelsie Swanson (Baltimore, Md.).  Junior attacker Torrey Schwitkis (San Diego, Calif.) also scored to increase her team-leading goal total to 36 on the season for Lenoir-Rhyne. 

The Royals jumped out to a 6-0 advantage just 10 minutes into the contest and never looked back.  Abigail Paulus (Pickerington, Ohio) and Kelly Dowd (Stony Point, N.Y.) added three goals each for Queens, who held an 11-4 lead at halftime.

Queens held the margin in both shots taken (29-23) and ground balls (16-9) as well while Christine Wiese (Chesapeake Beach, Md.) earned the victory in goal after making nine saves.  Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore Ines Flueck (Coppell, Texas) suffered the loss despite making seven stops on the day.

Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to host Lincoln Memorial for Senior Day in a South Atlantic Conference game next Saturday, April 16, at 1:00 p.m., at Moretz Stadium.  Queens travels to Mount Olive, N.C., to face Mount Olive on Thursday at 4:00 p.m.
