Catawba Women's Soccer Wins Close Over Lenoir-Rhyne, 3-2, With Late Goal

Hickory, N.C. – The Catawba Women's Soccer Team (3-1-1, 3-0) remained unbeaten in South Atlantic Conference play after scoring late to defeat Lenoir-Rhyne (3-2-2, 0-1-1), 3-2, Wednesday afternoon at the Moretz Sports – Athletic Complex.

The Indians' Shelby Vasich (Chatsworth, Calif.) scored the match-winner with just over four minutes remaining as Catawba held off Lenoir-Rhyne for the victory.  The goal was Vasich's fourth of the season.

Lenoir-Rhyne, trailing by a 2-0 score late in the contest, tied the match with goals by freshman forward Hannah Van Eerden (Stokesdale, N.C.) on a header and senior forward Miranda Simon (Burlington, N.C.) in the 78th and 83rd minutes of play, respectively.

Lenoir-Rhyne lost despite holding a 19-9 advantage in shots taken. 

Catawba's Erin Feldman (Charlotte, N.C.) opened the scoring at the 8:19 mark of the first half from about 20 yards out from the left side while Bailey Howell (Mooresville, N.C.) registered the Indians' second goal and her team-leading fifth score of the year before the Bears rallied to tie the contest.

In goal, Catawba's Shannon Hardy (Raleigh, N.C.) notched seven saves on the contest for the victory while senior goalkeeper Andrea Leano (San Diego, Calif.) suffered the loss for the Bears.  Leano was credited with two saves.

Lenoir-Rhyne hits the road to take on Lincoln Memorial in a South Atlantic Conference match Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m., in Harrogate, Tenn.  Catawba, meanwhile, hosts Coker in a league contest Saturday beginning at 5:00 p.m.
