Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Soccer Downs Lynn, 2-1, To Pick Up Its First Win Of The Season

Boca Raton, Fla. – The Lenoir-Rhyne University Women's Soccer Team (1-1) won its first match of the year, 2-1, over Lynn (1-1) Sunday morning at Bobby Campbell Stadium.

Lenoir-Rhyne freshman forward Hannah Van Eerden (Stokesdale, N.C.) broke a one-all tie with the match-winning score with just over 12 minutes remaining in the contest.

The Bears opened the scoring at the 9:20 mark of the first half when senior defender Jessica Feronti (Melbourne, Fla.) found the back of the net off a free kick.  Both Van Eerden and Feronti tallied their first goals of the year.

The contest remained 1-0 until Lynn tied the contest thanks to Donish Cole's (Boca Raton, Fla.) team-leading third goal of the year in the 50th minute of the match.

Lynn held an 8-7 advantage in shots taken while Lenoir-Rhyne senior goalkeeper Andrea Leano (San Diego, Calif.) registered the win after stopping two shots.  The Fighting Knights' Alexa Downie (Coral Springs, Fla.) suffered the loss despite making five saves in goal.

Lenoir-Rhyne hosts No. 19 North Georgia in its home opener on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m., at the Moretz Sports – Athletic Complex.  Lynn next hosts Columbus State on Friday night at 6:00 p.m.
