Hickory, N.C. – The Newberry Men's Basketball Team (8-4, 4-3) came back from a 22-point deficit in the second half to take an 80-75 overtime victory over Lenoir-Rhyne (5-7, 4-3) Wednesday night in a South Atlantic Conference game at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.
Newberry's James Stepp (Greensboro, N.C.) finished with 27 points on a game-high nine three-pointers while Gerald Evans (Inglewood, Calif.) added 16 points, eight rebounds and six assists as the Wolves rallied from a 46-24 deficit just after halftime to pull out the improbable victory.

Reed Lucas (Greensboro, N.C.) finished with a team-high 22 points on six treys and senior guard
Jalen Variste (Baton Rouge, La.) totaled 10 points and nine assists in the losing effort.
Evans forced overtime with a lay-up with one second left and Newberry held Lenoir-Rhyne to just one field goal in the extra frame.
Lenoir-Rhyne hit 13 three-pointers on the night but shot just four-of-22 (18.2 percent) from behind the third-point arc after halftime. Newberry's full-court pressure forced the Bears into 18 turnovers including 11 after intermission.
Newberry also held a 50-35 advantage on the boards and hit 16 three-pointers on the night. The Wolves lead the nation in three-pointers made per game this year.
Lenoir-Rhyne travels to Anderson, S.C., to take on Anderson in a league game Saturday at 4:00 p.m., while Newberry returns home to host Tusculum Saturday afternoon beginning at 4:00 p.m.
