Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Soccer Sends Saint Leo Home With 2-1 Loss

Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne University's Women's Soccer Team (8-3-1) used a strong start with two first-half goals to send Saint Leo (3-6) back home with a 2-1 setback on Tuesday afternoon at the Moretz Sports – Athletic Complex.  The Bears also extended their winning streak to three matches.

STATS OF THE MATCH:
•    Lenoir-Rhyne senior Alayna Morris (Westminster, Md.) earned the win in goal after making a pair of saves.  Morris' individual record continues to match the team's overall mark.  Saint Leo's goalkeeper, Megan Charlton (Kent, Wash.), suffered the loss and fell to 1-2 but picked up six saves in the process.
•    The Bears outshot the Lions, 13-11, but were more accurate as eight of the Bears' 13 shots (61.5 percent) were ruled on goal.  The road team only had three of its 11 shots (27.3 percent) on goal.
•    Sophomore midfielder Madi Kyle (High Point, N.C.) got her first start of the season and capitalized, putting Lenoir-Rhyne on the board in the sixth minute of the contest (her second goal of the season).
•    The lone goal from the Lions came on a header in the 72th minute from Sophia Kenny (Celebration, Fla.), her first score of the year.
•    The Bears were able to apply pressure all afternoon, outpacing the Lions by a 6-0 count in corner kick opportunities.
 
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
•    LR continues its strong performances at home as it holds a 6-1 record at the Moretz Sports – Athletic Complex.
•    Kyle's goal today was her second in as many contests.
•    An assist by Lenoir-Rhyne junior midfielder Abbie Brown (Leeds, ENGLAND) tied her for the team lead with four with sophomore forward Hannah Van Eerden (Stokesdale, N.C.).
•    The Bears have limited their opponents to one or fewer goals in eight of their 12 matches this season.

LR hits the road on Saturday for another nonconference clash with UNC Pembroke at 5:00 p.m., in Pembroke, N.C.  Saint Leo faces Sunshine State Conference-foe Nova Southeastern in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on Saturday, October 14, at 6:00 p.m.
