Anderson, S.C. – No. 22 Lenoir-Rhyne (13-3, 2-1) and Anderson (5-9, 1-2) split a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium. The Trojans prevailed in the first contest by an 8-6 score while the Bears salvaged the split, 8-0, in the nightcap.
Game One – Anderson 8, Lenoir-Rhyne 6
The Trojans' rallied from a 6-3 deficit to take the first game of the doubleheader over the Bears. Anderson took the lead for good with a pair of unearned runs as part of a three-run sixth inning.

David Newcomer (Archdale, N.C.) hit a solo home run in the second inning and finished with three hits and three runs batted in to lead the Bears' offensively despite the loss.

Landon Whitson (Marion, N.C.) fell to 1-1 after taking the setback while Andrew Dill (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) (1-1) earned the win after coming on in relief and pitching close to four scoreless innings to go along with five strikeouts for the Trojans.
Anderson's Avery Sneed (Zirconia, N.C.) hit a solo home run while William Thomas (Irmo, S.C.) totaled three hits and three runs batted in to lead Anderson offensively.
Game Two – Lenoir-Rhyne 8, Anderson 0 (seven innings)
Lenoir-Rhyne senior
John Curtis (Lenoir, N.C.) (1-0) threw a one-hit shutout in addition to 13 strikeouts as the Bears were able to salvage the split.
Lenoir-Rhyne junior third baseman
Fred Wadsworth (Columbia, S.C.) opened the scoring with an RBI double in the second inning before hitting a solo home run, his team-leading fifth of the year, in the fourth frame to lead the Bears on offense.
Lenoir-Rhyne junior outfielder
Marcus Shoemaker (Colfax, N.C.) added a solo home run as part of a three-run seventh for the Bears, who shut out the Trojans for the second time in three games. In addition, six of Lenoir-Rhyne's 10 hits were extra bases.
Anderson's Chris Ayers (Carnesville, Ga.) fell to 2-1 after suffering the loss.
Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to face Tusculum in a non-conference regional game on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m., while Anderson plays Limestone on the road on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.
