LR’s Season Ends With 56-46 Setback To Wingate In The 2017 SAC Women’s Basketball Championship

Wingate, N.C. – The Wingate Women's Basketball Team (23-5) downed Lenoir-Rhyne (17-12), 56-46, Wednesday night in the Quarterfinals of the 2017 South Atlantic Conference Championship at Cuddy Arena.

The Bulldogs, the third seed in the tournament, will face seventh-seeded Catawba (16-12) in the semifinals of the championship at 2:30 p.m., at Timmons Arena in Greenville, S.C.

Wingate was led by Marta Miscenko (Riga, Latvia) with 16 points and 11 rebounds – her 14th double-double of the year – as the Bulldogs defeated the Bears for the third time this season.

Lenoir-Rhyne, the sixth seed, was led by sophomore guard Madi Suddreth (Taylorsville, N.C.) with a game-high 18 points including 16 points in the first half but the Bears shot just 35 percent (18-of-51) for the contest.

Wingate also held a 43-29 advantage on the boards and converted on 16-of-20 free throw attempts.  The Bulldogs are also ranked sixth in the latest NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Poll – the top eight teams qualify for the national postseason tournament.

Lenoir-Rhyne senior forward Alecia Bell (Newport News, Va.) added 12 points off the bench for the Bears in the losing effort.
