Red-Hot LR Softball Runs Record Win Streak To 19 Games With Doubleheader Sweep of USC Aiken

Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Team (25-2), ranked No. 7 in NCAA Division II, swept a doubleheader from USC Aiken (12-8-1), 8-0 and 11-2, Friday afternoon at Bears Field to run its school-record winning streak to 19 games.

Game One – Lenoir-Rhyne 8, USC Aiken 0 (five innings)
Junior outfielder Christina Walker (Roxboro, N.C.) finished with three hits and three runs batted in including an RBI triple while sophomore Brandi Parks (Roaring River, N.C.) threw a three-hitter as the Bears run-ruled the Pacers.

The Bears scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the contest while USC Aiken's Hayley Elkins (Irmo, S.C.) fell to 5-4 after taking the loss.

Game Two – Lenoir-Rhyne 11, USC Aiken 2 (five innings)
Lenoir-Rhyne freshman third baseman Mackensi Swain (Pinetown, N.C.) hit a grand slam in a seven-run second inning as the Bears scored early and often to run-rule USC Aiken for the second straight game.

Junior second baseman Madison Poe (Siler City, N.C.) added a two-run double as the Bears led 11-0 after just two innings of play.  Parks (14-0) remained unbeaten on the year after registering the victory.

For the Pacers, Sydney Kate Murphy (Cincinnati, Ohio) drove in both runs while Chandler Terrapin (West Columbia, S.C.) fell to 4-4 after taking the loss.

Lenoir-Rhyne remains at home to host King on Tuesday, March 14, at 3:00 p.m., at Bears Field in a doubleheader.  USC Aiken hosts Flagler in a doubleheader in a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader Tuesday beginning at 3:00 p.m.
