Newberry, S.C. – Lenoir-Rhyne (31-8, 5-3) and Newberry (22-11, 5-3) split a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at the Smith Road Complex. The Wolves rallied to win the first contest by a 6-5 score before the Bears shut out the Wolves, 11-0, in the second game to salvage the split. Lenoir-Rhyne is ranked No. 20 in NCAA Division II.
Game One – Newberry 6, Lenoir-Rhyne 5
Trailing by a 5-3 score, the Wolves scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to take the victory. Tori Caldwell (Prosperity, S.C.) crossed the plate on a wild pitch to give Newberry the win.

Erin Boone (Creedmoor, N.C.) and senior first baseman
Sydney Landreth (Disputanta, Va.) both hit home runs in the losing effort. Landreth's round-tripper, her third of the year, was part of a two-run seventh inning to give the Bears a 5-3 advantage before the Wolves' rally.
Newberry's Christina Linton (Odessa, Fla.) drove in two runs while Devon Morris (Tampa, Fla.) improved to 13-4 after earning the complete game victory. Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore

Game Two – Lenoir-Rhyne 11, Newberry 0 (five innings)
Boone drove in four runs while freshman
Sydney Miller (East Bend, N.C.) (5-4) threw a four-hitter as the Bears run-ruled the Wolves to salvage the split.
Lenoir-Rhyne held a 4-0 lead before exploding for seven runs in the top of the fifth inning highlighted by two-run hits from junior second baseman

Newberry's Emily Marchbanks (Sweet Home, Ore.) fell to 8-7 after taking the loss.
Lenoir-Rhyne remains on the road to take on Mars Hill in a league doubleheader Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. Newberry, meanwhile, faces Carson-Newman on the road on Saturday in a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
