Hickory, N.C. – The Mars Hill Baseball Team (26-19, 12-3) swept a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader from Lenoir-Rhyne (21-22, 6-15), 10-4 and 4-3, Saturday afternoon at Bears Field.
Game One – Mars Hill 10, Lenoir-Rhyne 4
The Lions' Gray McCurry (Burnsville, N.C.) and Matt Honeycutt (China Grove, N.C.) combined for nine runs batted in to lead Mars Hill to the win.
The Lions clung to a 4-3 advantage before putting the contest away with three runs in both the seventh and eighth innings, respectively. McCurry tallied three hits and five RBI while Honeycutt added four runs batted in.
Lenoir-Rhyne was led by sophomore outfielder
Zach Jacobs (Moncks Corner, S.C.) and senior second baseman
David Newcomer (Archdale, N.C.) with two hits and a RBI each in the setback.
Mars Hill's Zac Brown (Albemarle, N.C.) (5-3) pitched eight innings and struck out seven batters to earn the win while junior
Landon Whitson (Marion, N.C.) fell to 2-4 after taking the loss.
Game Two – Mars Hill 4, Lenoir-Rhyne 3
Mars Hill's Brett Brubaker (Orlando, Fla.) hit the game-winning, two-run home run in the seventh inning as the Lions rallied from a 3-1 deficit to complete the sweep. Brubaker finished with three runs batted in.
The Lions' Caleb Edwards (Winston-Salem, N.C.) (2-0) went the distance to earn the complete game victory. Edwards struck out four batters as well.

Fred Wadsworth (Columbia, S.C.) hit a run-scoring double while senior
John Curtis (Lenoir, N.C.) (2-3) was tagged with the loss.
Lenoir-Rhyne hits the road to take on Limestone on Tuesday in Gaffney, S.C., beginning at 6:00 p.m. Mars Hill hosts Montreat Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.
