LR Women’s Soccer Battles No. 9 Carson-Newman To Double Overtime Tie, 2-2

Jefferson City, Tenn. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Soccer Team (3-2-1, 0-0-1) tied ninth-ranked Carson-Newman (5-0-1, 2-0-1), 2-2, after two overtimes Wednesday night in a South Atlantic Conference match at McCown Field.

Lenoir-Rhyne freshman defender Rachel Fischer (Clifton, Va.) forced overtime with a goal at the 86:36 mark of the second half.  The score was Fisher's first of the season.  Fisher headed the ball into the net off a corner kick from sophomore midfielder Aqsa Mushtaq (Bradford, ENGLAND).

The Bears were able to hold on for the tie despite allowing an own goal.

Lenoir-Rhyne junior midfielder Abbie Brown (Leeds, ENGLAND) opened the scoring with her second goal of the season just 5:57 into the match while the Eagles' Holly Talbut-Smith (Crawley, ENGLAND) countered just 21 seconds after intermission to give Carson-Newman the short-lived advantage.

The shots were tied at 11 while the goalkeepers – Lenoir-Rhyne senior Alayna Morris (Westminster, Md.) and Jacqueline Burns (Cookstown, NORTHERN IRELAND) – stopped five and seven shots, respectively.

Lenoir-Rhyne remains on the road to face Lincoln Memorial in a league contest Saturday at 1:00 p.m., in Harrogate, Tenn., while Carson-Newman hosts Queens on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
