LR Football Triumphs Over North Greenville, 22-10, For First Victory Of The Season

Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne University Football Team (1-1) picked up its first win of the year with a 22-10 triumph over North Greenville (1-1) Saturday evening at Moretz Stadium.

Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore quarterback Jarrod Kellar (Shinnston, W.Va.) threw for 170 yards and two touchdown passes while sophomore running back Nelson Brown (Salisbury, Md.) added 106 yards on the ground and a score as the Bears held a dominating edge in time of possession – 43:26-16:34 – in the victory.

The Bears found the end zone on their first three possessions including four and five-yard touchdown receptions by freshman Jordan Mann (Apex, N.C.) and sophomore wideout Jaquay Mitchell (Bailey, N.C.), respectively, in the first quarter.

North Greenville was limited to just 199 yards of total offense as the Bears simply kept the Crusaders off the field.

Lenoir-Rhyne had touchdown drives of 16, 16 and 18 plays, respectively, and finished with 352 yards of total offense.  LR redshirt freshman wide receiver Demarius Hampton (Carthage, N.C.) caught six passes while senior linebacker Marcus Kincaid (Morganton, N.C.) added nine tackles and a forced fumble and sophomore linebacker Dominick Britt (Greensboro, N.C.) registered two sacks in the win.

For the Crusaders, Ashton Heard (Abbeville, S.C.) scored a touchdown on the ground while Brandon Burger (Powdersville, S.C.) led all tacklers with 14 in the win.

Lenoir-Rhyne opens South Atlantic Conference play next Saturday, September 16, against Mars Hill in Mars Hill, N.C., beginning at 1:00 p.m., while North Greenville plays at Albany State on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
