Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's and Women's Swimming Teams hosted Catawba in a dual meet on Senior Day at the Shuford Physical Education Center on Saturday afternoon.
The men's squad prevailed over the Indians by a score of 173-86 while the women's team fought valiantly but fell to Catawba, 151-107.
On the men's side, Lenoir-Rhyne senior
Noah McRea (Hickory, N.C.) and sophomore
Jacob Queen (Hickory, N.C.) both won three events.
McRea prevailed in the 200-yard freestyle (1:45.31), 200-yard backstroke (1:58.57) and 500-yard freestyle (4:58.34) while Queen placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke (58.94), 200-yard breaststroke (2:10.23) and the 200-yard individual medley (1:57.68). Both swimmers were part of LR's first-place 400-yard freestyle relay squad (3:18.02).
On the women's side, Lenoir-Rhyne was led by junior
Alyx Koert (Naples, Fla.), who won the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:06.48) and 500-yard freestyle (5:30.00). Koert was also the fourth leg in the Bears' first-place 400-yard freestyle relay team (3:54.96).
Freshman
Lauren Rutherford (Bel Air, Md.), who was also part of the 400-yard freestyle relay squad, placed first in the women's 50-yard freestyle (25.93).
The Lenoir-Rhyne University Men's and Women's Swimming Teams next compete in the 2018 Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships in Charlotte, N.C., at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center from Wednesday, February 14, through Saturday, February 17.
