The Lenoir-Rhyne Football Team takes its six-game winning streak into Fort Valley for a non-conference battle with the Wildcats. Saturday will mark the first meeting between the two programs since LR defeated FVSU in the 2012 NCAA Division II Playoffs.
The Bears offense is firing on all cylinders. LR ranks eighth in the nation in points per game at 43.6 and also eighth in rushing at 280.0 yards a contest. The Bears rushed for a season-high 496 yards against Limestone in a Homecoming victory last Saturday and scored 63 points, the most since scoring 69 against Davidson in 1975.
LR has won six straight and sit just outside the top 25. The Bears rank 26
th in the nation and could slip into the national rankings with a seventh straight victory.
Ameen Stevens leads the Bears in rushing yards and is the conference-leader with six rushing touchdowns. Stevens punched in a pair of scores on the ground against the Saints and added one through the air for a career-high 3 TD game.
The Bears swept the South Atlantic Conference weekly awards.
Bradley Jones was named Offensive Player of the Week, while
Sherrod Williams won Defensive Player of the Week honors. Juquay Mitchell rounded out the winners, receiving the Special Teams Player of the Week award after returning a punt 63 yards for a touchdown.
Fort Valley State has lost four in a row heading into Saturday and have just one victory on the year. The Wildcats haven't scored more than 21 points in a game all season and will face an LR defense that has held each of their last three opponents to 21 points or less.
Unfortunately, no live stream will be available for the contest but Bear fans can tune in to the radio broadcast and hear Juju Phillips and Jack Huss break down all the action.
