Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne University Women's Lacrosse Team (1-2, 1-0) opened South Atlantic Conference play with a 16-6 victory over Newberry (2-3, 0-1) Wednesday afternoon at Moretz Stadium.

STATS OF THE GAME:
• Lenoir-Rhyne put the contest away early, taking an 11-1 advantage into halftime and leading by as many as 13 goals in the second half.
• The Bears were led by junior midfielder
Rachel Elmore (White Plains, N.Y.) and junior attacker
Gabby Sousa (Delran, N.J.) with four goals each while sophomore attacker
Cathleen Gaffney (Allentown, Pa.) added two goals and a career-high five assists in the victory. Gaffney leads the team with 14 points.
• Lenoir-Rhyne senior All-American
Ines Flueck (Coppell, Texas) earned the win after playing the first half while Newberry's Brandy Bowman (Irvine, Calif.) suffered the loss in goal despite three saves on the day. The Wolves were led by Rachel Dillon (Chesapeake, Md.) and Helen Kuhn (Charlotte Hall, Md.) with a pair of goals each.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
• The Bears picked up their first victory on the year. Lenoir-Rhyne is in the midst of a five-game home stand to start the season.
