No. 12 LR Softball Keeps Rolling With Doubleheader Sweep Of USC Aiken, 8-3 And 9-0

Aiken, S.C. – The No. 12 Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Team (23-4) stayed red shot with a doubleheader sweep of USC Aiken (8-20), 8-3 and 9-0, on the road at J.H. Satcher Field on Thursday afternoon.  With the sweep, the Bears have run their winning streak to 13 games.

STATS OF THE GAME (Game 1):
•    With the score tied at three after two innings of play, the Bears took control by plating the final five runs of the contest including the game-winning, run-scoring single by junior outfielder Erin Boone (Creedmoor, N.C.) in Lenoir-Rhyne's half of the fourth frame.
•    Lenoir-Rhyne finished with 17 hits in the contest and was led by freshman outfielder Savannah Moorefield (Claudville, Va.) with four hits and sophomore designated player Mackensi Swain (Pinetown, N.C.) with a home run and three runs batted in.  Junior Brandi Parks (Roaring River, N.C.) improved to 10-3 with the win for the Bears.
•    For USC Aiken, Jessica Stanley (Moncks Corner, N.C.) hit a three-run home run but Caroline Cockrell (North Augusta, S.C.) fell to 2-6 after taking the loss.
 
STATS OF THE GAME (Game 2):
•    The Bears run-ruled the Pacers in six innings.
•    Moorefield and freshman first baseman Kylee Leonhardt (Lincolnton, N.C.) had two-run hits while Boone hit her team-tying fourth home run of the season.  Leonhardt drove in three runs as well.
•    Lenoir-Rhyne junior Emily Kenley (Charlotte, N.C.) improved to 12-1 on the year with her 12th straight victory.  Kenley struck out six batters for her fourth shutout of the season while the Pacers' Hannah Price (Seneca, S.C.) fell to 2-5 after taking the loss.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
•    Lenoir-Rhyne is 21-1 in its last 22 games.
•    In the last 15 contests, Boone is batting .574 (27-of-47) with three home runs, 13 runs batted in and a .979 slugging percentage.

UP NEXT:
Lenoir-Rhyne opens South Atlantic Conference play on Sunday against Tusculum in Greeneville, Tenn., with a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m.  USC Aiken takes on Mount Olive in a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 20, in Mount Olive, N.C., starting at 2:00 p.m.
