Third-Ranked LR Men’s Lacrosse Wins National Showdown With No. 9 Tampa, 12-9

Savannah, Ga. – The No. 3 Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Lacrosse Team (11-1) rallied to defeat ninth-ranked Tampa (9-3), 12-9, in a battle of nationally-ranked top ten teams Saturday afternoon at Daffin Park.  The Bears rallied from a four-goal deficit midway through the second period for their seventh straight win.

STATS OF THE GAME:
•    Lenoir-Rhyne senior midfielder Ben Corrigan (Alpharetta, Ga.) led the way with a game-high four goals – including the contest-winner with 11 seconds left in the third period – as the Bears took control by reeling off nine straight goals after falling behind by a 7-3 margin midway through the second period.
•    Three players – junior midfielder Anthony Fraga (Haymarket, Va.), junior attacker Joe Buduo (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and sophomore midfielder Eric Dickinson (Charlotte, N.C.) – all scored twice for the Bears in the win.
•    Tampa's leading scorer, Andrew Kew (Oakville, Ontario, CANADA), was limited to two goals and the Bears' defense held the Spartans scoreless for over 30 minutes at one stretch during the contest.
•    In goal, Lenoir-Rhyne senior Ryan Crompton (Frederick, Md.) earned the victory after stopping 12 shots while B.J. Borowski (Walkersville, Md.) suffered the loss for the Spartans despite 10 saves.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
•    Lenoir-Rhyne avenged an 11-8 setback to Tampa in the 2017 NCAA Division II Quarterfinals at Moretz Stadium.
•    LR is 34-4 over its last 38 games dating back to the start of the 2016 season.
•    The Bears are 4-0 this year against teams ranked in the top ten in the nation at the time of the contest.
•    Buduo continues to lead the South Atlantic Conference in goals scored with 44 in addition to a team-leading 60 points on the season.

UP NEXT:
Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to face Lincoln Memorial in a league showdown next Saturday 1:00 p.m., at Moretz Stadium.  Tampa hosts Florida Southern in a Sunshine State Conference contest on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m.
