King Softball Clips No. 7 Lenoir-Rhyne In Doubleheader Sweep

Bristol, Tenn. – The King Softball Team (27-17) cooled off No. 7 Lenoir-Rhyne (42-7) with a doubleheader sweep, 2-1 and 4-3, Friday afternoon at Tornado Field.  The Tornado walked off with the win in both contests.  Lenoir-Rhyne also saw its 16-game winning streak come to an end.

STATS OF THE GAME (Game 1):
•    King's Katie McCann (Mount Carmel, Tenn.) came through with the walk-off, two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning with one out.  
•    Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore designated player Mackensi Swain (Pinetown, N.C.) hit her fifth home run of the season in the fifth inning.
•    King's Leslie Odom (Morristown, N.C.) (16-4) earned the complete game victory while junior Brandi Parks (Roaring River, N.C.) fell to 19-4 on the season after seeing her 15-game winning streak come to an end.

STATS OF THE GAME (Game 2):    
•    King's Hannah Riddle (Greeneville, Tenn.) broke a three-all tie in the bottom of the eighth inning with the game-winning RBI single.
•    Lenoir-Rhyne senior second baseman Madison Poe (Siler City, N.C.) tallied four hits and an RBI despite the loss.
•    On the mound, Rachel Farmer (Corryton, Tenn.) (5-2) pitched two scoreless innings to earn the win while Lenoir-Rhyne junior Emily Kenley (Charlotte, N.C.) fell to 21-3 after taking the loss.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
•    Lenoir-Rhyne has still won 40 of its last 44 games despite being swept by King.  The Bears haven't been swept since March 22, 2017, against Wingate.
•    Lenoir-Rhyne is ranked No. 2 in this week's NCAA Division II Southeast Regional rankings.

UP NEXT:
Lenoir-Rhyne will be the top seed in the 2018 South Atlantic Conference Softball Championship which begins on Saturday, April 27, in Anderson, S.C.  King faces Lees-McRae on the road in a Conference Carolinas doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 2:00 p.m.
