HICKORY, N.C. – In their home opener, the Lenoir-Rhyne men's soccer team came away with a huge 1-0 victory over Carson-Newman on Wednesday evening. The Bears got a goal from
Goncalo Garcia in the 60
thminute for the game-winner and his first tally of the season.

STATS OF THE MATCH:
• Garcia found the deciding strike off a perfect ball from
Ignacio de Goya who found Garcia just outside of the box. Garcia's shot beat the keeper to the top right.
• The Bears dominated play throughout the contest and held a 14-7 advantage in shots and a 5-2 lead in shots on goal. The Bears also held a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks on the night.
• Each team was whistled for 15 fouls in the match.
• Junior keeper
Alexander Langer recorded two saves for his first career shutout and the Bears first clean sheet of the year.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

Josh Silent led the Bears with four shots, most of which went just wide including a pair in the final 10 minutes.
• The win avenges last season's 1-0 loss at Carson-Newman and brought the all-time series to 19-16-2 in favor of the Eagles.
• This game is the only home game for the Bears in their first five matches.
