Jefferson City, TN - For the second straight year,
Goncalo Garcia scored a second-half, game-winning goal to give the Bears a win over Carson-Newman. However, this year Garcia added an extra goal to help the Bears beat the first-place Eagles on Wednesday evening.

STATS OF THE MATCH:
- Carson-Newson scored on a corner kick seven minutes in thanks to a header from Kensho Yoshikoshi to give the Eagles an early 1-0 lead.
- In the 15th minute, Victor Cascon capitalized on a free kick from 19 yards out to tie it at 1-1. It was Cascon's fourth goal of the year.
- The Bears had two straight headers right in front of the goal in the 55th minute. Giovanni Da Costa's header went off the right post then Javier Madrono headed the rebound and CN's goalie Bram Kaarsaren deflected it at the last minute.
- Garcia hit the right post from 14 yards out and it bounced back across the goal line for his third goal of the season to reclaim the lead for LR.
- Yoshikoshi's second goal of the day in the 84th minute tied it at 2-2. His goal came off a free kick.
- Garcia again! 2 minutes later! Garcia beat the Eagles for his second goal of the day, fourth of the year for the game-winner in the 86th minute.
- Jamie De Manuel added an insurance goal in the 89th minute to give the Bears the 4-2 win.
- Alexander Langer had three saves in goal, earning his 13th career victory.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Both Carson-Newman (5th) and Lenoir-Rhyne (10th) are ranked in this week's Southeast Region Poll
- This is the most goals Carson-Newman has given up since allowing seven goals to Wingate on October 14, 2017.
- This is the 39th meeting between the two teams. The Bears have now won the last two meetings but the Eagles still lead the series 20-17-2.
- The two teams have played every year for the last thirty years. LR won the first meeting 7-0 on September 16, 1989.
- Tonight's win was the 299th in program history; the Bears will go for 300 on Saturday afternoon.
