Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Tennis Team finishes the weekend strong moving to 2-0 on Sunday with a win over University of Charleston, sweeping them 7-0.
The Bears were led by double tandem
Sanne Janssen/Lucy Whelan (6-1) and
Diana Babinets/
Gemma Southwick (6-4) which gave the Bears an early lead with the doubles point.
The Bears didn't lose a match against Charleston. The Bears were led by Whelan who defeated Simon 4-6,6-3,10-5 The Bears as a whole only lost one set to Charleston.
This puts the Bears at 2-0 on the season and a dominant win against a team who made it to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament.
"To win 7-0 against a team that made the Sweet 16 of the NCAA torunament last year is a wonderful achievement," Head Coach
Jesse Tarr said. "Our ladies competed so hard and represented LR so well."
The Bears will be back in action Oct. 11 against Lees-McRae and Johnson C. Smith.
