Hawks' Big Shot Sends LR to Overtime Victory at Southern Wesleyan

Central S.C. -- Mason Hawks buried a game-tying 3-pointer with five seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime where the Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Basketball Team outlasted Southern Wesleyan 93-87. With the Bears trailing 77-74, Hawks took a dribble handoff and buried an NBA range triple and then LR outscored the hosts 16-10 in the overtime period to stay undefeated.

Stats of the Game:
  • Darius Simmons came off the bench to drop 18 points and went 14-for-16 from the free throw line. Simmons added five rebounds and his previous career-high in made free throws was seven against Mars Hill on Dec. 13, 2017. 
  • R.J. Gunn overcame a slow start to score 18 points and came one rebound shy of a double-double. 
  • The game was tied at 39 at the break but Southern Wesleyan charged ahead with a 10-0 run to start the second half. The Bears trailed for the entire second half and were down as many as 12 at the 11:15 mark.
  • Freshman Zim Fields took over in overtime, scoring seven straight points. 
  • Davion Bradford finished with 11 points and was 5-for-5 from the field including a highlight reel dunk in the second half. 
  • LR outscored SWU 28-13 from the charity stripe and converted 80 percent from the free throw line. 
  • The Bears shot 49 percent from the field but were held well below their season average of made 3-pointers. LR hit just seven threes and came into the night averaging 12.5 made triples per game. 
  • Six different players scored in double figures for the Warriors led by 18 from Clenzo Ross. 
Beyond the Box Score:
  • This is only the second all-time meeting between the two programs. LR beat SWU 83-52 inside Shuford Gym on 11/13/2018.
  • The Bears have won five straight games against Conference Carolinas foes. 
  • LR had six steals and two blocks in the first five minutes of the game.
  • 12 of Anthony Rice's 16 points came in the first half. 
  • This is the second straight 3-0 start for the Bears.
