HICKORY, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball Team looks to continue its strong play against the second-place Wingate Bulldogs on Wednesday evening. The last two LR games have identical 69-63 results with the Bears going 1-1 in those contests.
Tomorrow will also serve as the Bears "Play 4 Kay" game. In an effort to promote Breast Cancer Awareness the game will be centered on the raising awareness and fans are asked to come wearing pink in support of the cause.
Playing without its top two leading scorers, the Bears stunned Newberry on Wednesday on the road thanks to a season-high 13 points from
Ashley Rodriguez and a career-high nine assists from
Kennedy Weigt. With
Madi Suddreth and
Kendall Toineeta back in the lineup, LR played a red-hot Anderson team and the Bears nearly ended the Trojans 18 game winning streak.
Madeline Hardy recorded a double-double with 12 points and 13 boards against Anderson, good for her fourth of her freshman season.
With 343 career assists, Toineeta ranks seventh in program history and is just 12 dimes away from moving into sixth place. Suddreth has 1,268 career points which places her 11
th in program history. Suddreth is just 17 points from entering the top 10 in team history.
Wingate held LR to its lowest point total of the season in the earlier matchup, coming away with a 59-43 victory in early January. However, the Bears are a better team than they were five weeks ago and look to pull an upset.
Wingate has won nine of its last 10 games heading into this matchup. Wingate has won six straight in the head-to-head series with LR's last win coming on Jan. 27, 2016.
