DAHLONEGA, GA. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Tennis Team (3-1) suffered its first defeat of the 2018-19 season at the hands of North Georgia (2-0) by a final score of 7-0 on Saturday afternoon.
The Bears earned a victory in second doubles as the pair of
Mauricio Hernandez and
Josh Lazenby took a 6-2 decision over Zack Waldow and Kevin Candido. However, UNG would earn the doubles point thanks to 6-2 wins in the first and third lines.
UNG swept singles play but the Bears wouldn't go down without a fight. Lazenby pushed Niklas Zielen to three sets in second singles. The Bears also went to third set tiebreakers in #5 and #6 singles before falling in each.
Shane O'Dea would outlast Tim Kiehl 7-6 (13-11) in the second set of fifth singles and
Paul Lenz outdueled Waldow 7-6 (7-5) in his second set victory.
The Bears return to action on Friday as they host Southern Wesleyan for their first home match of the Spring season. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
