Women’s Lacrosse Downs Crusaders at Home

HICKORY, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Lacrosse Team got off to a hot start and cruised to a 16-12 home victory over the North Greenville University Crusaders on Monday afternoon.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

STATS OF THE GAME:
• The Bears took advantage of home field, dominating draw controls (17-13), ground balls (21-12), overall shots (36-24) and shots on goal (28-21). The Bears withstood a late run in the second half to improve to .500 overall.
• Lenoir-Rhyne had eight players record a goal in this one, but were led by the hot shooting Gabby Sousa (five goals), Rachel Elmore (four goals) and Alyssa Sack (two goals). 10 different Bears added ground balls to their stat line while nobody had more than two.
• NGU was led by a trio of players with three goals each: Rachel Kellogg, Olivia Foltz and Hanna Hawkins. Three others contributed to the scoring for the road team.
• Cristi Rowland drew the start in goal for the Bears, earning the win with three saves and five goals allowed in the first half. Teanna Sieben played in half two and earned six saves while allowing seven goals. Sydney Taylor played the entire game for the Crusaders and gave up 16 goals while posting 12 saves and taking the loss.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
• Sousa's five goals, with four being in the first half, is a season-high for the Delran, N.J. native.
• Kaitlyn Lehman and Jackie Rosetti both recorded their first goals of the season while Sousa, Cathleen Gaffney and Elmore both have scored in each game this season for the Bears.  
• North Greenville has now played three teams from the South Atlantic Conference and owns a 1-2 record against them. Their lone win was a 16-5 win over Tusculum on Feb. 12 at home.
• Through four games, the Bears are led in overall points by Gaffney who has 15 thanks to seven goals and eight assists while Elmore leads LR in scoring with 13 goals. The next highest goal total is Sousa with eight.
