Baseball Drops Back-and-Forth Affair with Coker

HICKORY, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball Team scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth and had the tying run at the plate, but the Bears' came out on the losing end of the game against the Coker Cobras on Wednesday night.
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

STATS OF THE GAME:
• Lenoir-Rhyne and Coker traded offensive punches throughout the game, as both teams managed 12 hits each. The Bears were led by Caleb Beatty who hit 3-for-5 with one run scored, Clayton Jeffries, 2-for-5 with two runs batted in, Will Jones who finished 2-for-3 with two walks, two runs scored and an RBI and Hunter Jackson, who had a sneaky-productive day at the plate going 2-for-4.
• The Cobras took and secured the lead when Griffin Hollifield took the mound, working 5.0 innings in relief and not allowing a run until the ninth. He finished with five hits and two runs against him in addition to five strikeouts, picking up his second win of the season in the process.
• Lenoir-Rhyne reliever Nolan Flachofsky took the loss after working one inning and giving up three runs on four walks and three hits in the heart of the game.
• The Cobras were led by RJ Ball at the dish, who finished 3-for-6 with three runs driven in and a run scored while the trio of Lake Lybrand, Chase Bruno and Tanner Crosby earned two base knocks each. Ball and Larry McCabe each hit home runs in the game.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
• Jackson showed that he can flash the leather in the four hole tonight while adding two hits in the game while getting his first start and playing time at second base this season.
• The Bears nonconference record falls to 6-7 and home record drops to 4-7.

 UP NEXT:
The Bears get set to travel to Charlotte, N.C. for a game at BB&T Ballpark on Friday, March 8, at 7 p.m. to kick off the weekend series against the Royals.
