BOONE, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Tennis Team ran its winning streak to eight straight with a 6-1 win over Belmont Abbey on Saturday afternoon. In a game that was moved a couple of times due to weather, the Bears emerged victorious.

Tom Rees. "Belmont Abbey pushed us in spots that our ladies will be able to learn from and improve on moving forward. Thanks must go to the folks at Deer Valley for helping us get this match played on short notice."
HOW IT HAPPENED
As has been the custom this season, the Bears dominated in doubles play getting a clean sweep. In doubles competition this season, LR is an outstanding 31-2 including a perfect 11-0 in the second spot. Marta Escanero Funes and
Lucy Whelan took a win in the first spot by a score of 6-3 and
Diana Babinets and
Gemma Southwick took a 6-1 decision in second doubles. Rounding out the sweep was a 6-2 victory by
Iulia Ponomareva and
Emily Murchland.
It was more of the same in singles play with the Bears rebounding from a loss in first singles to win the rest of the spots. The clincher came from the number four position where Babinets took a 6-1, 6-0 win over Morgan Nguyen.
Ally Garofoli outlasted Erica Dorn at the number five spot, winning 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 to go to 10-1 on the year.

The Bears will return to action on Wednesday when they get back into SAC play with a road trip to Queens on the schedule. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
