LR Upsets Reigning National Champions Barry in OT Thriller

Hickory, N.C-  The Bears welcomed reigning national champions and No. 9 ranked Barry University to Moretz Sports Athletic Complex Saturday night and it ended as an instant classic.  The Bears controlled most of the game, taking 17 shots compared to three for the Buccaneers. When Barry did have their chances, the Bears defense was suffocating. The Bears did not allow one shot on goal through 90 minutes. After a scoreless regulation, the Bears pulled the upset off in the 98th minute when Eric Miller scored from the right-wing to give the Bears a 1-0 win.

STATS OF THE MATCH:
  •  Eric Miller's goal in the 98th minute was his first collegiate goal. 
  •  Giovanni Da Costa assisted on Miller's goal and it was Giovanni's first career point.
  •  Alexander Langer picked up his second clean sheet of the season and his first shutout that included overtime. 
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • 18 years to the date was the last matchup between the Bears and Buccaneers with Barry winning 3-1.
  • Today's win was the Bears first win ever over the Buccaneers.  Barry still leads the all-time series 4-1. 
  • Barry's visit marks the first time the reigning national champions have visited Moretz Sports Athletic Complex.  
  • In 2017,  LR did beat the reigning National Champions, Wingate, at Wingate 1-0.
  • This is the Bears first 1-0 OT win since beating Limestone in the 2017 season.
