Duston Scores Twice as No. 16 Bears Drop No. 20 UNG Nighthawks

Hickory, N.C. -- The No. 16 Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Soccer Team defeated the No. 20 North Georgia Nighthawks 2-0 in a battle of the undefeated Wednesday night.

STATS OF THE MATCH: 
  • Neve Duston opened up scoring in the 40th minute, scoring a goal directly off a corner kick.
  • Duston then sealed the game scoring again in the 59th minute, off a corner kick for the second time.
  • The Bears outshot the Nighthawks 16 (10 SOG) - 13 (4 SOG).
  • Defending South Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Week Charlotte Warner made four saves on the night collecting her fifth clean sheet of the season.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • Lenoir-Rhyne's Women's Soccer has started the season 7-0 with all seven matches at home.
  • The Bears now have four player with 10+ points on the season (Hannah Van Eerden-11, Aqsa Mushtaq- 11, Abigael McGarel-10, and Duston-10).
  • The Bears are now 3-1-2 all-time against North Georgia.
  • Tonight marked Duston's first two-goal performance of her young career.
Head Coach Gary Higgins mentioned at the beginning of the season he wanted to make Moretz Sports Complex a stronghold and that other teams were going to have to really fight for a win. 

"We've got some really good players and they are sticking together and enjoying themselves, that's the most important thing," Coach Higgins said. "When we enjoy ourselves, we compete and we fight. We're excited to go on the road and experience something different and hopefully keep this momentum going."

LR is back in action on the road against Queens on Saturday Sept. 28 at 5 p.m.
