Four Bears in Double Figures in 70-44 Victory over Newberry

Hickory, N.C..--   Karlie Bearden (16), Ashley Woodroffe (16), Kennedy Weigt (14) and Madeline Hardy (12) were all in double figures as the Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball team used a 19-4 fourth quarter to pull away from the visiting Newberry Wolves Saturday afternoon at Shuford Gymnasium. The Bears capped off their three game homestand with a 70-44 win and improve to 3-2 in Hickory.

Stats of the Game:
  • The first half saw the Bears grab an early lead with a 5-0 run to start the game. LR stretched the lead to nine points halfway through the second quarter before the Wolves cut it to six (30-24) at the half. 
  • Both teams struggled from the field in the first quarter. Newberry shot 3-15 (20%) and LR 5-16 (31% ) in the opening quarter.  Both teams got into a rhythm in the second quarter, shooting over 40.0% from the field in the second quarter.
  • Woodroffe lead the Bears with 10 first half points while Hardy and Weigt each had eight in the first half. 
  • In the third quarter, the Bears stretched their lead to double figures thanks to 52.7% shooting in the quarter.
  • In the last quarter, Newberry went 0-12 from the field as the Bears used that to their advantage to finish the game on a 19-4 run. 
  • After Woodroffe set a new career high 14 points on Wednesday, she went out and broke that with 16 points today.  Woodroffe added 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 block to her day. 
  • The 26-point win today is the Bears biggest win of the season and their biggest since beating Lees-McRae 85-55 on December 18, 2018.
  • Karlie Bearden scored all of her 16 points in the second half. Bearden went 8-for-9 shooting in the half. 
  • The Bears held the Wolves to 44 points. The least amount of points the Bears have given up since giving up 31 points on February 22, 2017 against Queens.  
Beyond the Box Score:
  • Both teams enter the game averaging 65.2 points per game.  Newberry is lead by Keli Romas, who averages 11.8 per game while LR is lead by Madeline Hardy and her 15.8 points per game.
  • With her 12 points tonight, Hardy has reached the 500 point milestone for her career. Hardy joined junior Kennedy Weigt as the two active players with more then 500 points.
  • With her three pointer in the first quarter, Weigt hit her 30th three of the year. Weigt is currently second in SAC only behind Anderson's standout guard Alexy Mollenhauer (35).
  • After two more free throws today, Hardy moved up to 18th in Nation with 65 made free throws on the year.  Hardy has made 78.8% of her free throws on the year.
  • For the first time all year, Bears did not have any bench points in the first half. The starters combined for all 30 first half points.
