Bears Fall to Carson-Newman in Quarterfinals Despite Bearden's 24 Points

Jefferson City, TN-- For the second time in three years, Carson-Newman and Lenoir-Rhyne met in the SAC Conference Tournament Quarterfinals in Jefferson City. Tonight, Carson-Newman used 53% shooting to advance and beat the Bears 105-71.  Senior Karlie Bearden tied her career high with 24 points and senior Jackie Denny added a season-high 10 points as the duo finished their collegiate careers.

Stats of the Game:
  • Both teams shot the ball extremely well in the first half. LR shot 43% (14-32) while C-N shot 53% (22-41) but the Bears had 11 turnovers in the first half leading to 11 points off turnovers for the Eagles. 
  • Tatum McBride was a spark off the bench for the Bears. McBride finished with a career high 12 points. McBride hit four of five three pointers on the night. McBride doubled her three pointers on the season.
  • Bearden lead the Bears with 24 points and 8 rebounds. Bearden shot 11-17 from the floor on the evening. 
  • Redshirt Senior Denny added a season high 10 points for the Bears. The two-sport star shot 4-5 from the field in her last game as a Bear. 
  • Carson-Newman was lead by Kayla Marosites. Marosites had 21 points and 13 rebounds. It was the senior's 58th double-double of her career for the Eagles.
  • With a three-pointer in the 4th quarter, Carson-Newman broke the SAC conference record for 3's made in a season with 316. 
  • Ashley Woodroffe finished with six assists, a new career high for the freshman. Woodroffe added 11 points and a steal in her 31 minutes on the floor. 

Beyond the Box Score:  
  • This was the 13th time the two teams met in the SAC Conference Tournament. with the win today, C-N has won 9 out of the 13 matchups including 2018.
  • LR did beat Carson-Newman in the 2014 SAC Tournament semifinals 75-74 before the Bears fell to Wingate in the championship the next night.
  • Bears struggled away from Shuford Gymnasium this season. LR finished with a 3-12 record away from home for the season. 
  • Bearden crossed the 600 point mark tonight. Bearden will finish her career with 613 points. 
  • Woodroffe's previous career high for assists was five also against Carson-Newman.
