Hickory, NC - Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Tennis improve to 2-0 in conference play with winning sweep over Mars Hill 7-0 on Friday afternoon.
Ally Garofoli and Diana Babinets got LR off the mark with a 6-0 victory at no.3 doubles against the pairing of Stiles/Wilson. No.1 and no.2 doubles followed with wins in quick succession. Gemma Southwick and Sanne Janssen improve to a three-match winning streak at no.1 doubles.
1-0 up going into the singles, LR looked to be handling the windy conditions better than Mars Hill. Babinets won at no.6 singles, beating Carli Stiles without dropping a game.
Evelin Menyhart came through a second set tiebreaker to beat Evan Lake which put LR in a strong position to win the match. Garofoli would then go on to secure the win for the Bears with a 7-5 6-2 victory at no.4 singles. Janssen, Southwick and
Lucy Whelan continued to dominate Mars Hill by completing the 7-0 sweep. Southwick continues to impress at the no.1 spot, progressing to 7-1 in singles play.
The Bears next play away at Francis Marion in a non-conference match up on Sunday, March 8.
