Gunn Leads Bears Past Coker

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Lenoir-Rhyne won its fifth game in its last six contests with an 11-point victory over Coker on Saturday afternoon. R.J. Gunn finished with 23 points and Darius Simmons had 17 as LR ran its winning streak to three straight.

STATS AND INFO:

- LR is 8-2 in their last 10 games against Coker but avenged a 2020 loss in Hartsville
- Gunn has averaged 22.5 points over the past two games in Hartsville
- The loss drops Coker below .500 on the season after dropping their third straight
- This is just the second double-digit win for LR this season

FIRST HALF:
- Lenoir-Rhyne started the game on an 8-0 run and didn't look back
- The Bears shot 53.6 percent in the first half
- Davion Bradford went a perfect 4-for-4 on his way to a 9-point, 6-rebound first half
- R.J. Gunn added nine points of his own as seven different players scored in the opening frame
- Coker hit 45.8 percent from the field and was led by eight points from Anthony Thomas

SECOND HALF:
- Lenoir-Rhyne led by as much as 17 at 64-47 but the Cobras wouldn't go down without a fight
- An 11-0 run by Coker cut the deficit to 67-62 with just 1:49 to play but a pair of Gunn free throws pushed the lead back to seven
- LR would outscore the Cobras 10-2 in the final two minutes of the game to seal the victory
- Gunn had 14 second-half points

ABOUT THE BEARS:

- For the ninth time this season, LR forced more turnovers than they committed
- Over the past two games, LR had 11 players score in double figures but only two players did today
- LR improved to 5-3 all-time in Hartsville
- The Bears are 5-0 when leading at halftime

NOTABLE COBRAS:
- Malcolm Kennedy had 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting and hit four of his five attempts from long range
- Chandler Lindsay had a game-high 10 assists and became the first LR opposing player to record double-digit assists since Ika Agusi of Queens on Jan. 18, 2018
- Coker only went to the free-throw line six times in the game
- LR forced Coker into 19 turnovers
