Sherrill Goes For 20 Points,15 Rebounds in Bears 81-47 Win over Mars Hill

Hickory, N.C.- Mallory Sherrill had 20 points and 15 rebounds as the Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball cruised past Mars Hill 81-47 on Wednesday evening in the Shu. Four Bears finished in double figures as the Bears outscored the Lions 69-30 in the final three quarters to earn the victory.  It marks the Bears first back to back wins on the year.

STATS AND INFO:
-Mallory Sherrill had a career night. Sherrill scored 20 points on 8-12 shooting and added 15 rebounds and five assists, all career highs for the redshirt freshman. 
-LR forced the Lions into 18 turnovers on the night. Scoring 23 points off turnovers while Addisen DeLucas had a career high six steals. 
-Tonight's win for LR is their 17th straight home victory against Mars Hill. Mars Hill has not won inside Shuford Gym since March 2, 2005. 
-Tonights win marks the first back to back wins for the Bears since beating Mars Hill and Queens back to back last January 22nd and 25th. 
-For the second game in a row this week, LR only had eight players active. Addisen DeLucas played all 40 minutes for the second straight game. 
-This was the Bears first 30+ point win since beating Lees-McRae 85-55 on December 18, 2018. 

FIRST HALF:
-After a sluggish start LR shot 69.2% (9-13) in the second quarter that included a 13-0 run to overcome the five-point deficit after the first quarter. The Bears used another big second quarter to take a nine point lead in half. This is the third straight game the Bears have outscored their opponents in the second quarter by 10 or more points. 
-LR continued to pound the glass with a 22-16 rebound advantage. Bears had 8 offensive rebounds in the half that lead to 10 second chance points. 
-Sherrill had a huge first half scoring 14 out of her 20 points in the half along with 9 rebounds (4 offensive)
-Both teams shot over 40% from the floor in the first half but the teams struggled from deep shooting a combine 2-14 from three.

SECOND HALF:
-The second half was all LR. The Bears outscored the Lions 43-18 in the second half. 
-Ashley Woodroffe had 13 of her 19 points in the second half. Woodroffe got to the free-throw line 7 times in the half and finished 10-11 from the line for the game. 
-For the second game this week, the Bears led for all 20 minutes in the second half. The Bears led for 27 minutes and 14 seconds on the evening. 
-The Bears continued to get everyone involved. All eight Bears scored tonight and LR had 18 assists on their 27 baskets.

ABOUT THE BEARS:
-Korbin Tipton got her first career start for the Bears. Tipton had a career high 15 points on 6-for-11 shooting. Korbin also pitched in 6 rebounds. 
-Nakia Hooks just missed her second straight double-double, finishing one rebound shy. This is the second straight game she finished with 10 points and 9 rebounds against Mars Hill.
-Bears finished with a season-high 49 rebounds on the night and LR has combined for 92 rebounds in the last two games. 
-Associate Coach Audrey Timmerman led the Bears as Head Coach for the second straight game. 
-Freshman Adalie Harrison scored her first career point on a free-throw in the 4th quarter. 
-Sherrill joins Emily Harman and Kennedy Weigt to score at least 20 points in a game this year. 
-Sherrill is the fifth LR player this year to have a double-double. 

NOTABLE LIONS:
-The Bears shutdown standout senior De'Ja Marshall tonight. Marshall came in the game averaging 21.6 points and 14.7 rebounds but the Bears held the senior to nine points and seven rebounds on the evening. 
-Gabby Gianikos lead the Lions with 15 points. Gianikos also had 3 rebounds and 4 steals for the Lions. 
-The Lions failed to hit a three pointer tonight finishing 0-10 from deep. 

UP NEXT:  Bears will finish their three game homestand Saturday afternoon against #21 Tusculum. Tip off is schedule for 2:00 PM.
