The Lenoir-Rhyne volleyball team looks to extend its winning streak to eight games when they travel to Anderson on Tuesday night to take on the Trojans at 6 p.m. The two teams had a five-set thriller in the spring with Anderson coming away with a 3-2 win on March 26.
The match six-and-a-half months ago saw
Ashley Hawkins reach 1,000 career digs and LR took two sets from the Trojans for the first time since 2016. Overall, the Bears have dropped nine straight to Anderson with the last win coming on Halloween 2015.
The Bears are one of the hottest teams in the region, having not lost a match since the first day of the season. The Bears fell to nationally-ranked Hillsdale and American International on September 10 but have rattled off eight straight. The win streak is the longest since 2015 and the 6-0 start in league play is the programs best since 2004. Lenoir-Rhyne tangled with previously unbeaten Tusculum four nights ago and handed the Pioneers a convincing loss. The Bears swept Tusculum 25-13, 25-20 and 25-11 that evening. Â
Emma Clark paces the league with a .368 hitting percentage including a .600 mark in the sweep of Tusculum. The senior transfer from Georgia St. also ranks third in the SAC in blocks at 1.31.
Rachel Bewick, last week's AVCA National Player of the Week, is tied for first in the league at 5.30 digs per set and
Braelyn Faust is fourth in hitting percentage (.331) and blocks per set (1.13).Â
Taylor Prall is seventh in the SAC with 3.10 kills per set and is in the top 10 in the league in assists, service aces and is 11
th in digs. Â
Anderson was picked to finish second in the preseason SAC Coaches' Poll and have largely lived up to that billing. Anderson enters the contest with a 9-5 overall record and a 4-2 mark in league play with the only blemishes coming against Tusculum and Wingate.
Anderson is 51-8 at home over the past five seasons, including undefeated campaigns in 2017 and 2018. Lenoir-Rhyne is 3-8 in program history in matches at Anderson.
First serve is set for 6 p.m.
