Football Names Weekly Award Winners After Catawba Win

HICKORY, N.C. - After Lenoir-Rhyne Football's 56-3 beat down of Catabwa on Saturday afternoon, the team has handed out its weekly awards. Senior safety Eric Jackson was named the Ronnie Lott Heavy Hitter of the Week after forcing a fumble with a huge hit. QB Grayson Willingham and RB Dwayne McGee were named co-offensive players of the week after Willingham threw for 246 yards and three touchdowns, and McGee broke the single-season school record for rushing yards after running for 206 against the Indians.

DT Dan Louba was named defensive player of the week after he had six tackles, 1.5 sacks and a rushing touchdown. WR and Hickory native Malakei Sumner was named special teams player of the week. 

WR Songa Yates was named scout team offensive player of the week, DE Jordan Holmes was named scout team defensive player of the week, and S Chase Childers was named scout team special teams player of the week. 

The Bears begin their playoff run this Saturday as they travel to No. 12 Bowie State for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
