Bears Take Down No. 1 Seed with 3-1 Win over Tusculum

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Taylor Prall exploded for 20 kills as the fourth-seeded Lenoir-Rhyne Volleyball team took down top seed Tusculum in the South Atlantic Conference Semifinals. The Bears will move on to the finals and look for their first tournament championship since 2015 and just the second in program history.

STATS OF THE MATCH:
  • Prall added 14 digs in the match for her 16th double-double of the season. The 20 kills were the third-most in a single game this season for the senior.
  • LR hit .282 as a team compared to .219 from Tusculum.
  • The Bears grabbed momentum with wins in the first two sets before the Pioneers rallied for a narrow 25-23 third set victory.  
  • An Emma Clark kill in the fourth set secured the victory for the Bears and a spot in Saturday's championship.
  • Colette Romp notched 12 kills, her second straight match in double figures.
  • Braelyn Faust tallied five blocks and a pair of aces and Clark had five blocks while Prall totaled four rejections.
  • Rachel Bewick had a team-high 23 digs and Mackenzie Hulsey finished with a double-double with 43 assists and 18 digs.
  • Clark had five kills on the evening and Alannah Thomas had nine kills and hit a season-best .444. 
  • Raeley Matthews finished with 15 kills for Tusculum.
  • SAC Player of the Year Emiah Burrowes was contained to just nine kills and hit just .045 with seven errors. 
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • The only time LR has won the SAC Tournament was back in 2015. 
  • The Bears lost in the championship game in 2004 and 2006 making this just the fourth trip to the title game in program history.
  • The championship game will be the 1,500th match in program history.
  • This marks the 19th game played by Lenoir-Rhyne outside of Hickory. The Bears are 9-4 in road games and 3-3 at neutral sites.
