Clutch Three Leads Lenoir-Rhyne Past Coker

HICKORY, N.C. – Jalen Johnson hit a 3-pointer with 35 seconds to go and LR went 4-for-4 from the free throw line down the stretch to hold off a Coker comeback and take a 67-64 road victory on Tuesday night.

STATS AND INFO:
- Lenoir-Rhyne improves to 2-0 in conference play for the second straight season
- Nas Tyson went off for a career-high 18 points and made four 3-pointers
- LR is now five wins away from 300 victories in league play

FIRST HALF:
- LR came out scorching, hitting 53.6 percent from the field and burying six 3-pointers
- LR ran out to a 32-17 lead, the largest lead of the game, but the Cobras closed out the half on a 14-5 run to cut it to five at the break
- T.J. Nesmith sparked the Bears in the opening half, hitting all four field goal attempts and scoring eight points in six minutes
- Malcolm Kennedy kept the Cobras close with 14 first-half points and went 4-of-6 from long range

SECOND HALF:
- Coker tied the game twice but the Bears extended the lead to double digits at 50-39 with 13:16 to play
- LR kept a double-digit lead until the 7:04 mark when Coker used a 13-4 run to cut LR's lead to 60-59
- Johnson's clutch triple ended an LR scoring drought that stretched over two minutes and made it a two possession contest
- However, Coker cut it back to one with a three on their ensuing possession
- Johnson and Kevin Kangu calmly buried four free throws down the stretch to seal the win

ABOUT THE BEARS:
- LR started a brand new starting five but the reserves exploded for 60 bench points
- LR was outrebounded 37-23
- Malik LeGania finished with 12 points on a perfect 6-of-6 shooting
- Nesmith finished with 11 points and missed just one shot on the night

NOTABLE COBRAS:
- Kennedy cooled in the second half and scored just three points to finish with 17 on the night
- Chandler Lindsey, Williams Onyeodi and Jahnarious Snell all finished in double figures
- Coker shot just 10-of-30 from long range
