For the last time in the regular season, the Lenoir-Rhyne Football Team will hit the road as they travel to Wilson, N.C. to take on Barton. The Bulldogs are not yet a full-time SAC member in football so this game will be a non-conference contest, the last non-conference matchup for the Bears this year.
Two of the top running backs in the nation will square off on Saturday as Lenoir-Rhyne's freshman
Dwayne McGee (1,236 yards, 17 touchdowns) and Barton's freshman Jordan Terrell (1,440 yards, 12 touchdowns) match up. Terrell comes into the contest as Division II's second-leading rusher in total yards and yards per game. Terrell has more rushing yards this season than Barton has passing yards on the year. McGee is fifth in Division II in rushing yards and his 17 touchdowns on the ground are third in the nation.
At QB,
Grayson Willingham and Jaquan Lynch have different styles that have proven successful. Willingham, a pocket passer, owns pretty much every all-time passing mark in Lenoir-Rhyne Football history. Lynch is a dual-threat QB who has thrown for 1,363 yards and nine touchdowns and rushed for 338 yards and seven scores.
Defensively, the Bears stack up tougher against the rush than Barton. LR allows just 85.8 yards per game to opponents while the Bulldogs permit the opposition to rush for 161.6 yards per contest. LR has only allowed two 100-yard rushers on the season.
The Bulldogs have never beaten Lenoir-Rhyne in the 10 all-time matchups. Barton, who competed as Atlantic Christian, played LR nine times between 1928 and 1950 before discontinuing football. In the spring, Barton restarted their program but fell 44-13 to LR and went 1-4 in the shortened season.
The kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Saturday at Truist Stadium.
