Weigt Shoots Herself Into Record Book; Bears Fall to Lions

Mars Hill N.C.--Senior Kennedy Weigt shot herself into record books tonight at Mars Hill as she hit five three-points on the night to give her 187 career three pointers, which moves her to the top of the LR record book for most career three-pointers made. Weigt finished with a season-high 26 points on 8-16 shooting including 5-10 from three but the Bears fell 75-71 to the Lions.

STATS AND INFO:
-With the loss tonight, the Bears have now dropped ten straight road games dating back to last year.  The last road victory was at Mars Hill on January 22, 2020. 
- Mars Hill snaps a ten game losing streak tonight against the Bears. The Lions last win against LR was a 55-52 win on January 16, 2016 before tonight's victory.
-Tonight's game is a start of five games in a ten days stretch for the Bears. 
-Weigt has 19 career 3-pointers against Mars Hill in her career. 
-Weigt broke Jazmine Charles' record of 183. Charles played for LR from 2011-2015 and still 5th all-time in LR scoring with 1605 career points. 

FIRST HALF:
-Weigt scored half of the Bears first half points on 5-6 shooting while the rest of the Bears went 7-24 in the half. 
-Mars Hill led throughout the half and stretched their lead to seven at the break (37-30) despite both teams shooting over 40% from the floor and 50% from three. The Lions did hold a 9-0 fast break advantage due to eight LR turnovers in the half. After getting to the line 31 times in the first meeting, the Bears only got to the line two times in the first half. LR averages 22.3 shots from the charity stripe in their last three games. 

SECOND HALF:
-Mars Hill's De'Ja Marshall had four points and four rebounds at the half. Marshall, who entered the game 27th in the nation in scoring and 5th in rebounding had a huge second half. Marshall scored 20 of her team-high 24 points in the second half. Marshall also added 15 rebounds and went 8-10 from the line. 
-The Lions lead throughout the game and had a 19 point lead with 1:26 left to go before the Bears made a run. LR went on a 17-2 run in the last 1:26 to cut the lead to four but ran out of time before the comeback bid ran out of time. The four point final was the smallest lead the Lions had in the final 20 minutes and the closest the Bears got since 35-30 in the late stages of the second quarter.

ABOUT THE BEARS:
-After dominating the glass in the first matchup of the year, the Bears got outrebounded 41-34 tonight. LR did get eight rebounds a piece from Addisen DeLucas and Sydney Wilson. 
-LR was called for 23 fouls on the night, the most for the Bears in this calendar year. The Lions doubled the Bears in free throw attempts on the evening (28-14). 
-Weigt finished with a game-high 26 points and was just one shy of her career high.

NOTABLE LIONS:
-Marshall got her 8th double-double of the season for the Lions. 
-Kyle Daniels (10) and Gabby Gianikos (14) joined Marshall in double figures. Daniels and Gianikos combined went 9-16 from the floor. 
-The Lions shot 43% from the floor tonight, which is their highest output since the calendar flipped to 2021.
