Ruiz's Hat Trick Lifts Bears Past Catawba

Hickory, N.C.--Four minutes and twenty-one seconds was all Andres Ruiz needed for his first career hat trick as the Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Soccer Team handed Catawba a 4-0 defeat. The hat trick was the first from a Lenoir-Rhyne player since Josh Silent accomplished the feat on October 24, 2018.

  • Victor Cascon scored five minutes into the game off an assist by Jaime Poza. Cascon now has a goal in all three games for the Bears.
  • Ruiz entered the game in the 36th minute and went on to score three goals in 4 minutes and twenty-one seconds to gave the Bears the 4-0 lead before the halftime break.
  • Poza had his second straight assist on Ruiz's first goal 
  • After the Bears grabbed the 4-0 lead, their defense took over only allowing three Catawba shots on the night.
  • Juan Basabe got his second clean sheet on the year. Basabe had one save on the night.
  • The Bears out shot the Indians 24-3 and had a 7-2 advantage on corner kicks. 

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • With tonight's win, the Bears have beaten the Indians six straight times.
  • Cascon's goal moved him into 9th place in points and 5th place in goals in team history. 
  • Tonight marked the 20th career start for Benjamin Gnieser and David Sdzuy
  • Four goals are the most by the Bears since beating Newberry 4-0 on October 12, 2019.
  • Poza has at least one point in all three matches to start his Lenoir-Rhyne career.
